I recently picked up the book "Sucker Punch: the art of the film". And I gotta say I highly recommend it. The book has about 250 pages of movie posters, lots of concept art, sketches and movie stills. Its not a "making of" book or anything like that, just art (none of that pesky "reading" stuff" :D). While its debatable how good the movie actually is, visually, I think its amazing. Its one of those movies that you see something new every time you watch. Nazi zombies, orcs, dragons, giant robot samurais, its all good stuff. The posters for the film heavily inspired my first Wonder Woman pic. If you're interested in picking it up:…

Big fan of the movie and the Art Book myself! I really wish Zach Snyder would consider a sequel, even a stand alone one.

I'm not advertising a movie, just recommending a book I like. No one is paying me.

Honestly, I feel like SP would have been an amazing movie if there was no dialogue, or at least sparing dialogue. I mean, the beginning sequence is so potent, and it tells everything you need to know about Baby's back story without a bit of dialogue! In fact, in all of Zack's movies, the parts without dialogue are the most powerful. I was dumbfounded and slack-jawed when I first saw the opening montage in Watchmen, with "The Times, They Are A Changin" playing behind it.

I agree with you, I'm not quite sure exactly how good the movie is... I enjoy it more visually than for its storytelling, but I guess as long as a movie engages you on some level it's a success

The basic ideas, the fictional universes within the story, and the eye candy in that movie really do it for me, even if I'd have to admit it's overall far from perfect. I know there's more than one significant plot detail that wasn't terribly well-thought-out, and that the writing could've been given more time and care(and that the three layers of reality/fantasy are confusing and probably bit sloppily done,) but to say that Snyder isn't top-notch where visuals(and probably action scenes) are concerned as far as modern Hollywood goes is pretty much like saying the sun is cold. It's rare that I gain so much from visual art in a film that I can enjoy it this much--I'm a stickler for smart writing, and wish that was more purely the case with Sucker Punch--but it somehow manages to still be inspiring.

I'll be glad to check this book out just to learn that much more about its art--once I'm finally not broke.
